In the past, no Feng Shui master would allow any student to practice Feng Shui alone even though the student had been followed the master as an apprentice for a few years.  All Feng Shui consultants had over at least ten years of study before they would go out to consult people.

It takes years to understanding the principles of Chinese philosophy and it takes years to understand the theories in Feng Shui.  There is no short cut to become a Feng Shui consultant without spending tens of years to study and practice.  It is impossible to take a few courses and then qualify you to a Feng Shui consultant.  Some people emphasize the year of practice in Feng Shui consulting, but the years spent in studying Feng Shui is far more important than practice.  If you have only kindergarten level knowledge, you are not competent to be a doctor, not to mention to teach medical science or to practice as a surgeon to save people's life.  No matter how many year you practice, your knowledge will still be at the kindergarten level.
